A COOK'S TOUR TO EAST L.A.'S MEXICAN
MARKETS: Join me for a personal tour of East L.A.'s
Mexican markets and its most exciting Mexican food Meccas.
Visit a top Panaderia (bakery) for bread and sweet pastries
and learn all about their differences. Taste gorgeous tortillas—made
by the old pat-pat, hand-made method—still-warm and heavenly
aromatic—and then buy a dozen to take home. Purchase
kilos of the city's best, still-sizzling carnitas. Explore
a huge marketplace, crammed full of Latin American products
including exotic tropical fruits, unusual grocery items, bottled
table salsas, piñatas, cheeses, cremas, traditional sweets,
Mexican cuts of meat and a cooking equipment store. Grin at
endless aisles of frilly party dresses, cowboy hats plus ostrich
and alligator boots and belts. Choose an outfit for your next
fiesta along with a selection of mariachi music CD's. A hosted
lunch will wrap up a delectably fun day, ending with piping
hot, fresh churros for dessert: the real deal.
Tours are offered on specified Saturdays
10AM to 3PM for groups of at least ten participants. You
may put together your own group and choose your date, or
join another tour. Transportation is car-pooling in participants'
vehicles. Bring a cooler to store your purchases. Please
contact me for dates and to reserve your spots. Price $75
per person.
